Ready to retire from your day job but still want to contribute to your community and to the economy? Are you a working or retired business owner, executive or professional who would like to volunteer your experience and expertise to help local small businesses succeed? SCORE NYC may be just the opportunity you are looking for to share your business knowledge and experience, help emerging businesses succeed and stay active in the local and national business marketplace.

SCORE NYC, now in its 45th year of operation, has over 70 members who volunteer their time and energy to counsel and mentor individuals starting or operating small businesses. Our experienced counselors help clients gain the practical knowledge that will help them succeed in their business ventures.

In addition to their counseling activities, SCORE NYC members put on low-cost workshops and seminars, serve as speakers telling others about SCORE, and participate in a variety of chapter activities (See About SCORE NYC).

In addition to our focus on recruiting new, qualified counselors, we are very interested in attracting individuals with marketing and promotional skills who can contribute to our ongoing effort to get out the word on the good work and achievements of our chapter.

If you’d like to talk about becoming a SCORE NYC volunteer, please call our office at 212-264-4507 or email either of the following:
Elliot Merberg, Chairman, at merberg@scorenyc.org, or
Harry Dannenberg, First Vice Chairman, at dannenberg@scorenyc.org

Benefits of Volunteering for SCORE NYC

Most SCORE NYC members indicate that staying abreast of current trends and helping small businesses succeed and grow are the only rewards they need for volunteering. As a SCORE NYC counselor, you will also …

  • Have the satisfaction of contributing to the success of others,
  • Earn the respect and admiration of your peers and associates,
  • Provide valuable leadership to your community,
  • Demonstrate the skills and know-how that led to success in your own career,
  • Enjoy the opportunity for ongoing education.

You will also benefit by contributing to the growth of your community and will gain personal satisfaction from sharing your knowledge and know-how with business start-ups, growing businesses and struggling businesses. SCORE NYC counselors often comment about the good feelings that come from “giving back” to their community and city. Volunteering with SCORE NYC is a great way to contribute to the economic strength of New York City.
